On National Flag Day, NDP raises the flag for Canadian sovereignty « Canada’s NDP

Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“On this day, 60 years ago, Canada’s maple leaf flag was raised on Parliament Hill for the first time. For 60 years, the Maple Leaf flag has been a reminder of what unites us: our love for this country and our shared values, like looking out for our neighbours and taking care of one another.

With Donald Trump unleashing an unprecedented trade war on Canada, attacking our workers, Canadian unity has never been more important.

When Canadians stand strong together, we will always win.

Hardworking Canadians are already doing their part to buy Canadian. Municipalities are stepping up with Canadian procurement plans. Together, we can manufacture and build more of what we need right here in Canada, protecting and growing good Canadian jobs.

The government needs to do its part to show Donald Trump who he’s trying to mess with. I’m fighting for dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs, a 100 per cent tariff on Elon Musk’s Teslas, and changes to procurement so Canada buys Canadian-made steel and aluminum for federal projects.

Canadians are strong. We will not let Donald Trump, or anyone else, threaten our values, our economy or our flag. We are Canadian, and we’ll stay strong and free.”
