Reality Check – Pierre Poilievre insults the Arctic before claiming he’d defend it « Canada’s NDP

Will Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre defend Canada’s Arctic?
In December, Poilievre said that there was no need for diplomacy in Nunavut because only Santa Claus lived in the Arctic.
“How can a man who insults Northern communities – saying nobody but Santa Claus lives there – be trusted to understand their value and protect Arctic sovereignty?,” said Lindsay Mathyssen, NDP critic for National Defense.
Poilievre is in Nunavut Monday, where people might wonder if he’s still dismissive about the fact that Inuk Elders are not, in fact, Algonquin people.
