Carney threatens to fight job losses with more job losses « Canada’s NDP

At a time when workers are already losing their jobs to American President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs, and hundreds of thousands more are worried, Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney revealed that he would pile public-sector job cuts on top of that.

“I expected Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives to gut public services, from border officers to health inspectors. But people will be really disappointed to hear Mark Carney also planning public sector layoffs,” said NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.

“Canadians deserve a government planning to create more good, unionized jobs. Not one sending more people pink slips.”

Mark Carney, Feb 5, 2025 : “For example, there was a big growth of staff in government – a heap of over 30 per cent increase, we can use technology to increase their productivity, there’s a lot – what’s important, now it’s a question – it’s more a question of increased expenditure.”
