In Windsor, federal Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney holds a news conference to outline the policies he would pursue as prime minister to grow the Canadian economy. He pledges to reach the NATO defence spending target of 2 per cent of GDP by 2030, two years earlier than the Trudeau government has promised. Carney also proposes to reverse the capital gains tax increase. Responding to questions from reporters, Carney discusses how he would navigate the Canada-U.S. relationship going forward given the Trump administration’s unpredictable approach to historical alliances.
