Green Party Condemns Trump’s Proposal to Displace Palestinians

OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada strongly condemns Donald Trump’s latest proposal to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza to enable the U.S. to take control of the territory. This outrageous and unlawful suggestion not only violates fundamental principles of international law but also disregards the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.

“Trump’s proposal is a horrifying attempt to erase an entire people from their homeland,” said Elizabeth May, Co-Leader of the Green Party of Canada. “Canada must forcefully communicate its opposition to these criminal designs and reaffirm our commitment to international law, human rights, and justice.”

Under international law, forced displacement of civilian populations is a grave violation. The Geneva Conventions prohibit the forcible transfer of protected persons from occupied territories. The Green Party calls on the Government of Canada to immediately and unequivocally reject Trump’s proposal and to take a stronger stance in advocating for Palestinian rights.

“This is not just a question of diplomacy; this is about standing up against blatant disregard for human life and international law,” said Jonathan Pedneault, Co-Leader of the Green Party of Canada. “Canada must recognize Palestine as a sovereign state and use every diplomatic tool available to oppose actions that further undermine peace and justice in the region.”

The Green Party also reiterated that Canada has a moral obligation to act in accordance with its values.

“Trump’s rhetoric deserves the strongest possible condemnation,” said MP Mike Morrice. “Canada must be on the side of human rights and moral clarity: We do not support forced displacement, illegal land grabs, or any actions that violate international law.”

The Green Party of Canada urges the Canadian government to officially recognize Palestine as a state and push for genuine, lasting peace based on justice, human rights, and the rule of law.
