David McGuinty, the federal public safety minister, Terry Duguid, the minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew deliver remarks ahead of a border security exercise at the Emerson port of entry in Manitoba. They highlight the measures being taken to bolster security at the Canada-U.S. border following the Trump administration’s decision to pause the imposition of 25 per cent import tariffs on Canadian goods.
Following the exercise, the premier and ministers speak to the media. McGuinty faces questions on the role of the new ‘fentanyl czar,’ which the federal government agreed to create in order to obtain the 30-day reprieve from U.S. tariffs.
