Full Name: Heather Piche

Medium: Watercolour

How long have you been doing your art: I started painting in 2019, during the Covid lockdown. I don’t paint for long periods but usually a little bit every day.

What got you originally interested in the art you do: I quilted for years, since my teens and did love that but unfortunately the cost of supplies just became too prohibitive. I thought about what I wanted to do and realized that I have always loved the look of watercolours so decided to give it a try.

What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: I realized that I crave peace in my life. We went through 2 years of difficulty, pain and chaos but I saw that in my paintings I could create some peace amongst all the pain.

What do you enjoy the most about your art: I love the way the colours mix together and do their own thing.

What do you think makes art important: Art is different things for different people but for me, it’s a voice. Art tells a story, not only what the artist wants to say but also what the observer sees.

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I have become more confident in my art over the past few years and wanted to showcase it more. I also find so much encouragement and inspiration from getting to know other artists and hope that I can maybe do that for others. I look forward to participating in this large and active group.

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on): I am challenging myself this year to do more figures, and maybe more portraits.
