NDP on International Day of Persons with Disabilities « Canada’s NDP

NDP Disability and Inclusion critic Bonita Zarrillo made the following statement:

“International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an opportunity to shine a light on barriers, and advocate for better.

New Democrats believe everyone should have an affordable, safe home and a fridge full of groceries. Yet persons with disabilities in Canada are struggling to get by. More than a million people in Canada with a disability live in poverty, and others are barely making ends meet.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have let people with disabilities down. Just last week they excluded them from their planned $250 rebate.

And the Conservatives, they cut. The Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre, say the government should help people less so they can hand out more to big corporations and their CEOs.

New Democrats want people with disabilities to get relief, not billionaires. Just yesterday, I brought forward a plan to stop unfair claw backs to the Canada Disability Benefit.

This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, New Democrats are working to make life more affordable and more accessible for Canadians living with a disability.”
