Ministers speak briefly with reporters on Parliament Hill before the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting. Ministers Dominic LeBlanc (public safety), Anita Anand (Treasury Board president, transport), Soraya Martinez Ferrada (tourism), François-Philippe Champagne (innovation), Jean-Yves Duclos (public services) and Arif Virani (justice) face questions on the recent meeting between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, LeBlanc and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. They also discuss this afternoon’s meeting between the prime minister and opposition leaders on Canada-U.S. relations and border security issues.

Karina Gould (Government House leader) comments on the negotiations between opposition parties to end the ongoing debate over a Conservative privilege motion that continues to stall work in the House of Commons.

Virani also takes questions on the Supreme Court of Canada’s expected ruling on the constitutionality of the Quebec government secularism law, Bill 21.

Additionally, Champagne discusses the financial struggles faced by Quebec electric vehicle manufacturer Lion Électrique

Marc Miller (immigration) faces questions from reporters on the federal government’s recent decision to pause refugee sponsorship applications from community organizations and from groups of five or more people.
