House gridlock, calls for Boissonnault to resign – November 19, 2024

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons. Minister Karina Gould (government House leader) comments on the ongoing debate over a Conservative privilege motion that continues to stall work in the House of Commons. Now nearing its two month mark, the debate stems from a House order concerning the production of government documents related to the now-defunct Sustainable Development Technology Canada.

NDP MPs Blake Desjarlais, Leah Gazan, Minister Steve MacKinnon (labour) and Liberal MP Yvan Baker face questions on calls for Employment Minister Randy Boissonnault to resign over Boissonnault’s shifting claims regarding his family’s Indigenous ancestry.

Minister Marc Miller (immigration) reacts to a new report that shows that a record number of high-skilled immigrants are departing Canada for opportunities elsewhere.

Minister Anita Anand (transport) comments on the increase in auto thefts across the country.

Minister Jean-Yves Duclos (public services) reacts to concerns by Quebec Premier François Legault over another possible wave of migrants to the province if incoming U.S. President Donald Trump follows through on his plan for the mass deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States.

MacKinnon, Liberal MPs Yvan Baker and Salma Zahid, as well as NDP MPs Alexandre Boulerice, Don Davies and Gord Johns face questions on issues ranging from the ongoing Canada Post strike, the spike in the cost of rent and a new report highlighting the rise in mental health challenges facing Canadians.
