Canada’s NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh, made the following statement:

“Happy Gurpurab to all those who celebrate!

Today, Sikhs in Canada and around the world celebrate the 555th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji. Hundreds of years later, his fight to spread love, equality, unity, social justice and community is still important, and relevant within Canada and globally.

Let’s also take the opportunity to recognize the universality of these values and the similarity of the values that unite all Canadians. Together, we can build a more inclusive Canada.

From myself and all New Democrat, I wish everyone a joyous and prosperous Gurpurab.”
