Just The Facts: Canadians Feeling Hopeless After Nine Years Of Trudeau

Ottawa, ON – After nine years of the NDP-Liberal government, Canadians are feeling hopeless. This was made clear today in the Salvation Army’s Annual Canadian Poverty report for 2024 which showed concerns around housing costs, crime and disorder have all intensified under Justin Trudeau.

In the past few months, Canadians have become increasingly concerned about their ability to get ahead in Justin Trudeau’s Canada. In March 2024, 35 percent of Canadians were worried about homelessness and housing insecurity. By September, that number had increased to 44 percent.

Similarly, in March, only 19 percent of Canadians were concerned about crime. This has skyrocketed to 25 percent in September, in the wake of a dramatic rise in violent crime. In fact, since Trudeau became Prime Minister, violent crime has increased by 50 percent after Trudeau repealed mandatory prison time and allowed repeat, violent offenders back into our once-safe communities.

On top of this, Canadians are still deeply concerned about their financial prospects. In September, 23 percent of Canadians said they were “concerned about having enough income to cover my basic needs.” While 50 percent of Canadians are concerned about the rising cost of living, made worse by Trudeau’s plan to quadruple the carbon tax by 2030. This is reflected in the increasing number of Canadians who are having to rely on food banks just to survive.

Life has become so expensive that 58 percent of parents are facing “food-related challenges.” One in four of these parents say they personally ate less so their children or family members could eat and 86 percent said they are buying less nutritious food for their children because it is cheaper.

It wasn’t like this before Justin Trudeau and it won’t be like this after he’s gone. Common Sense Conservatives have a plan to deliver the relief Canadians deserve by axing the tax, building the homes, fixing the budget and stopping the crime.
