Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“This week, people across the country will celebrate Diwali, Deepavali, and Bandi Chhor Divas.

Today on Diwali, families will come together to celebrate the festival of light, good prevailing over evil, and light over darkness. Families will come together to light lamps, exchange gifts and take part in celebrations. On Friday for, Bandi Chhor Divas, let’s remember the power of standing together, in solidarity, in the face of injustice.

Today is moment to reflect on what makes Canada so great – our diversity, freedom of religion, and working towards building a better country.

On behalf of all New Democrats, I wish everyone a happy Diwali, Deepvali, and Bandi Chhor Divas!”
