GUELPH  — The Federal Guelph Greens are thrilled to announce their official nomination meeting for the upcoming federal election, set for November 2, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (EDT) at 10C Shared Space, 42 Carden Street, Guelph. This exciting event will mark the launch of the federal Green Party campaign in Guelph, where Green members will gather to select the party’s candidate for the riding in the upcoming federal election. After Saanich—Gulf Islands and Kitchener Centre, Guelph will soon have the opportunity to become a double Green riding.

Green MP Mike Morrice, and Ontario Greens Leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner will be in attendance, underscoring the importance of Guelph to the Green Party and the enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming campaign.

The event will feature Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik and Dylan White, both of whom have been actively engaging with the community over the past four months to earn the support of Guelph Greens.

Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik is the founder and medical director of the Hope Health Centre, a regional HIV/AIDS clinic located in Guelph. She is also former director of ARCH, an organization that provided care, treatment and prevention services for those living and at risk of HIV and AIDS. In 2006, she started the Bracelet of Hope campaign which raised $1 million for an HIV/AIDS clinic in Lesotho, Africa.

Dylan White is a seasoned biologist. His work spans 12 years of success in more than 200 projects. He has researched and managed ecological systems across the country – in the high arctic tundra of Nunavut, the boreal and alpine forests of the Yukon, in the James Bay lowlands, in the transitional forests of Ontario and in the built environment of the GTA.  His clients have included First Nations, academic, government, non-profit and private sector stakeholders.

“Guelph has demonstrated incredible commitment to Green values, and we’re eager to see that support flourish on the federal stage,” said Leader Elizabeth May. “With dedicated candidates like Dr. Zajdlik and Dylan White stepping up, Guelph is positioned to help drive the shift towards sustainable policies that prioritize both people and the planet. This is an important moment for Ontario.”

This isn’t just about choosing a candidate,” added MP Mike Morrice. “It’s about beginning the next chapter in strong, principled federal advocacy that puts people ahead of partisanship. Folks in Guelph have long seen the benefit of having a Green MPP punch way above his weight at Queen’s Park. I’m so excited for Guelphites to have the choice in the next federal election to elect a Green MP that will build on the track record Mike and his team have forged since 2018.”

Mike Schreiner, MPP for Guelph and Leader of the Ontario Green Party, who has long represented Green values in the area, will also be lending his support to the event and candidates. He sees the nomination as an opportunity for Guelph residents to further amplify their voices on a national level.

The Federal Guelph Greens encourage all Green Party members and supporters to attend and be a part of this momentous event as they work together to bring their message of environmental stewardship, social justice, and community-centered governance to the federal election.
