Liberal caucus unrest, Bloc Old Age Security bill – October 23, 2024

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons. Ministers François-Philippe Champagne (innovation), Gary Anandasangaree (Crown–Indigenous relations), Jonathan Wilkinson (natural resources), Marci Ien (women and gender equality), Mary Ng (trade) and Jean-Yves Duclos (public services) as well as Liberal MPs Francesco Sorbara, Salma Zahid, Francis Drouin, Shafqat Ali, Marc Serré face questions on dissent within the Liberal party caucus and reported challenges to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s future as leader of the party. Former Liberal MP Don Boudria and Conservative MP Pierre Paul-Hus also comment on this issue.

Bloc Québécois MP Andréanne Larouche discusses Bill C-319, her private member’s bill to increase Old Age Security payments. The Bloc Québécois has made passage of the bill, alongside another piece of legislation on supply management, as preconditions for supporting the minority Liberal government.
