Green Party of Canada Celebrates Strong Green Campaign in New Brunswick Election, Congratulates Key Wins

OTTAWA — The Green Party of Canada is proud to congratulate the New Brunswick Green Party for its strong performance in the 2024 provincial election and gaining 14% of the popular vote. Thousands of dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly to spread the Green message of environmental stewardship, social justice, and responsible governance. Their efforts have paid off with remarkable wins that showcase the growing support for Green policies in New Brunswick. As New Brunswick celebrates its first woman premier, the Greens are proud of having the only gender-balanced caucus

We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations to David Coon, who secured a decisive victory in the newly configured Fredericton-Lincoln riding. Coon, the leader of the New Brunswick Green Party, has once again proven to be a trusted and committed advocate for his community, winning with a commanding lead.

We also congratulate the New Brunswick Green Party Deputy Leader Megan Mitton for her resounding win in Tantramar, where she defeated Liberal candidate and former Sackville mayor, John Higham. Mitton’s victory reinforces her strong leadership and the trust that the people of Tantramar have placed in her.

Additionally, we applaud Kevin Arseneau for his exceptional campaign in Kent North, where he garnered an impressive 37.1 percent of the vote against a former Liberal MP. His campaign was also made more difficult because of his hospitalization with appendicitis during the writ period. His efforts energized the community and reflected the growing support for Green policies throughout the region. He will be missed as an MLA, but he will still have a big role to play in New Brunswick politics in the future.

“This election has demonstrated the increasing momentum for the Green movement in New Brunswick,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada. “David Coon and Megan Mitton’s victories are well-deserved and inspiring, and Kevin Arseneau ran a campaign that has laid the groundwork for future success. Their hard work and commitment are the foundation of our success in the province.”

For the New Brunswick Green Party, the work continues. The party is now committed to holding the Liberal government accountable, ensuring that the voices of those who demand a sustainable future, social equity, and economic fairness are heard.

“Now is the time for us to keep pushing forward,” added May. “The Green Party will continue to be a steadfast voice for the people of New Brunswick, holding the Liberal majority accountable and fighting for a future that benefits everyone.”
