Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada’s NDP, made the following statement to celebrate the holiday:

“Thanksgiving is a time to recognize and be grateful for the gifts in our lives.

Across Canada, people are celebrating today with friends and family. There is a lot to be thankful for in our communities where neighbours help neighbours.

This Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for all those who work to make the long weekend safer and warmer for others, including first responders, health care workers, shelter staff and those who keep the lights and power on for us all.

While counting our blessings, today is also a time to reflect on rising challenges. From the price of groceries and the cost of the roof over your head to climate disasters and wars around the world, this Thanksgiving may have less food on the table and more weight on the shoulders of Canadian families. We think of families less safe and families less fortunate, and envision brighter days ahead.

In Canada, I believe the more we care for each other, the more we all have to be thankful for.

I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving.”
