Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Yom Kippur:

“As the sun goes down tonight, Jewish people will gather to mark Judaism’s holiest day of the year – Yom Kippur.

“Over the last ten days, from the moment the Book of Life was opened on Rosh Hashanah, Jews have been preparing for this sacred day. Across Canada, they will come together in homes and synagogues for a meaningful day of prayer and fasting until the Closing of the Gates.

“Yom Kippur invites us to repent and seek forgiveness for past wrongs. We are reminded of G-d’s eternal love and His timeless promises of mercy and justice to His people.

“As the Jewish community faces a disturbing resurgence of antisemitism in Canada and around the world, we commit ourselves to making Canada a freer country where everyone can live and worship in peace and security.

“G’mar Chatima Tova.”
