OTTAWA – On Friday, Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh announced new critic portfolios for his NDP caucus, a move triggered by the election of newly sworn-in NDP MP Leila Dance who won the Elmwood—Transcona riding for the NDP in a September byelection.

“The NDP team believes in a Canada where we take care of our neighbours. That’s why each NDP MP fought to deliver dental care and pharmacare, and that’s why our team is working to protect universal health care, fight for more homes that people can afford and deliver relief from high costs. We won’t stop standing up for Canadian families trying to keep their kids fed while they get gouged on their grocery bills, and stand up for Indigenous justice,” said Singh.

“With Leila Dance, we’ve proven that the NDP can stop Conservatives and the deep cuts they’re planning. Realigning our critic portfolios puts us in an even stronger position to fight for everyday middle-class families and stop the Conservatives from taking away the services Canadians depend on.”

  1. NDP MP Leila Dance (Elmwood—Transcona) becomes the critic of Small Business and Tourism and will be the deputy critic for Transport.
  2. NDP MP Taylor Bachrach (Skeena—Bulkley Valley) becomes the critic of Rural Economic Development and will also serve as deputy critic of Finance.
  3. NDP MP Rachel Blaney (North Island—Powell River) takes on the critic role for Public Services and Procurement.
  4. NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice (Rosemont—LaPetite-Patrie) adds deputy critic of Foreign Affairs to his duties.
  5. NDP MP Richard Cannings (South Okanagan—West Kootenay) becomes critic for Treasury Board and critic for Agriculture.
  6. NPD MP Blake Desjarlais (Edmonton Griesbach) takes on the critic role for International Trade.
  7. NDP MP Alistair MacGregor (Cowichan—Malahat—Langford) becomes the critic for Justice and Public Safety while also serving as deputy critic for Agriculture.
  8. NDP MP Bonita Zarrillo (Port Moody—Coquitlam) adds critic for Seniors to her duties.
