L’Essentiel : Débat sur l’accès à l’eau potable pour les Premières Nations – 10 octobre 2024

Les membres de la Première Nation de Shamattawa, au Manitoba, doivent faire bouillir leur eau depuis 2018. Ils intentent un recours collectif au gouvernement du Canada au nom de tous les membres des Premières Nations au pays qui font face au même problème. 59 autres Premières Nations les appuient dans leur poursuite. Les avocats du gouvernement fédéral répliquent en affirmant que le Canada n’a ni obligation légale ni aucun devoir d’exploiter et d’entretenir ces réseaux d’aqueduc. Notre animatrice Catherine Lafrance aborde la question avec la sénatrice Michèle Audette.

Le Parti conservateur accentue sa pression auprès du gouvernement libéral, et ce, tant dans la Chambre des communes que dans une campagne publicitaire lancée il y a quelques jours. Nous en discutons avec les journalistes Joël-Denis Bellavance, chef de bureau pour le journal La Presse, et Émilie Bergeron de La Presse canadienne.

Le Canada gère-t-il bien ses finances? Catherine Lafrance pose la question au sénateur et économiste Clément Gignac.
