MPs on rise in antisemitism in Canada, Conservative privilege motion – October 8, 2024

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons. Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, Government House Leader Karina Gould, as well as Liberal MPs Anthony Housefather and Ben Carr comment on the rise in antisemitism in Canada. Gould also discusses the Conservative privilege motion on obtaining government documents pertaining to Sustainable Development Technology Canada.
Housefather and Carr also respond to questions on Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s plan to list pro-Palestinian group Samidoun as a terrorist entity in Canada.
Bloc Québécois MP Stéphane Bergeron takes questions on his party’s negotiations with the minority Liberal government. He also comments on Pierre Poilievre’s support for a pre-emptive Israeli strike against Iranian nuclear sites.

NDP MP Charlie Angus speaks about Speaker Greg Fergus’ ruling to not allow Pierre Poilievre to speak in the House of Commons for the rest of the day. This comes following the Conservative leader’s refusal to withdraw his claims that Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly is pandering to supporters of Hamas.
