New Brunswick Launches Legal Challenge On Trudeau’s Punishing Carbon Tax

Ottawa, ON – After nine years, Justin Trudeau has made life unaffordable for Canadians. The NDP-Liberal Government’s punishing carbon tax has driven up the cost of everything, forcing families to pay $700 more for food this year than they did in 2023. Millions of Canadians are having to line up outside of food banks just to survive, including one in ten people in Toronto.

Trudeau’s carbon tax is nothing more than an expensive scam. This was made clear again today after the Province of New Brunswick relaunched a legal challenge to the NDP-Liberal carbon tax. Common sense Conservatives thank Premier Higgs for standing up to the costly NDP-Liberal carbon tax.

For years, Trudeau lied to Canadians, saying that families were somehow earning more from the carbon tax than they were paying. But all the while Trudeau was saying this, his government was sitting on a secret internal document that showed Canadians were being made worse off. In fact, the government’s own data showed that the carbon tax will cost the Canadian economy $30.5 billion per year by 2030. The Parliamentary Budget Officer has also been clear that the carbon tax will cost Canadians more than they get back in any rebates.

On top of this, the Fraser Institute has also reported that Trudeau’s carbon tax will cost the average Canadian worker $6,700 by 2030. It will also lead to 164,000 fewer jobs, as well as reducing the Canadian economy by 6.2 percent by 2030.

Despite the economic devastation Trudeau’s carbon tax is causing, the NDP-Liberal Government is sprinting ahead with their plan to quadruple the carbon tax to 61 cents per litre by 2030. This is the last thing Canadians need.

But help is on the way. After we have a carbon tax election, a common sense Conservative government will axe the tax on everything, for everyone, everywhere, to bring home powerful paycheques and lower prices for all Canadians.
