Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces $8.6-billion in funding for education spaces

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces an $8.6-billion commitment for 200.000 new student spaces across the province over the next seven years. The investment, made through the new School Construction Accelerator Program, aims to start up to 30 new schools and as many as eight modernization and replacement school projects every year for the next three years.

Smith is joined at the news conference in Calgary by Alberta ministers Demetrios Nicolaides (education) and Pete Guthrie (infrastructure), as well as Patricia Bolger (board chair, Calgary Board of Education) and Julie Kusiek (board chair, Edmonton Public Schools). (September 18, 2024)
