MPs on byelections, federal carbon pricing – September 16, 2024

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons. Defence Minister Bill Blair comments on retired vice-admiral Haydn Edmundson being found not guilty of sexual assault against a former subordinate. Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault, as well as Liberal MPs Yasir Naqvi and Adam van Koeverden face questions on Jagmeet Singh’s evolving stance on the federal carbon price and whether the NDP would support a confidence motion to end it. Liberal MP Yasir Naqvi and Green MP Mike Morrice discuss their party’s priorities for the resumption of Parliament. Bloc MP Louis Plamondon responds to questions on today’s byelection in the Montreal riding LaSalle-Emard-Verdun, a federal district that has been held by the Liberals for decades. Conservative MP Richard Lehoux tells reporters that the constituents in his riding are calling for a federal election this autumn.
