DELTA – Ravi Kahlon, BC New Democrat MLA for Delta North presented the King Charles III Coronation Medal to three locals during a ceremony at Tasty Indian Bistro.

“The incredible work that these three community members have always done has made a positive, lasting change in Delta,” says Ravi Kahlon, MLA for Delta North. “Their unwavering dedication to making our community a better, safer place for everyone is remarkable.”

Valerie Windsor, Curtis Miller Joe, and Amar Sangha are the local recipients of this honour for their outstanding contributions to the community.

A gift to the education community, Valerie Windsor has devoted more than 50 years as a teacher and school board chair. Her remarkable and visionary advocacy work includes improving graduation rates for Indigenous students and building Delta Community College.

A native artist who received the Courage to Come Back award, Curtis Miller Joe transitioned from a violent drug-addict to a dedicated child and youth worker. He tirelessly works with students, helping them resolve drug-abuse and re-connect with their communities.

The founder of Sher Vancouver, Amar Sangha founded Sher Vancouver, a registered charity for South Asians who are LGBTQ+. He also created Sher Films which produces thought-provoking documentaries on social justice issues and more to advocate for human rights.

They have all played a part in making Delta an amazing place to live and have built legacies that will continue that effort for generations to come.

The Coronation Medal, a Canadian honour created to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, was launched by Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, and recognizes those who have made significant contributions to Canada and their home province. The medal will be awarded to 30,000 deserving individuals across the country and is the first Canadian honour to mark a coronation.
