Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland scrums as caucus meeting continues – September 10, 2024

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland speaks with reporters in Nanaimo, B.C., on the second day of the Liberal Party’s three-day national caucus retreat. She announces the launch of the federal government’s second round of consultations concerning potential surtaxes on Chinese goods.

Responding to questions, she comments on the appointment of former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney as chair of a new Liberal Party task force on economic growth. She also raises concerns about screenings of a documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival depicting Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine.
