Long-time strategists Jo Gauvin and Erin Morrison take on new roles

OTTAWA—Jagmeet Singh announced changes to his senior staff team on Monday.

Jonathan Gauvin has been named the NDP leader’s Chief of Staff. Gauvin has been working with the NDP since 2014. He has served in several roles including Director of Policy and most recently Deputy Chief of Staff. Gauvin steps in for Jennifer Howard, who is stepping away to take on the national campaign director role for the next federal election.

Erin Morrison joins Singh’s team as Deputy Chief of Staff with primary responsibility for communications. Morrison joins the team after serving in senior positions with the Ontario NDP Caucus and Saskatchewan NDP Caucus, and providing strategic and communications counsel to political leaders and organizations across the country.

“I am thrilled that Jo Gauvin will be our new Chief of Staff,” said Singh, “He is smart, committed and an incredibly hard worker. I know he will be an effective leader for our staff team and a trusted adviser to me.

“Having Erin Morrison join our team as Deputy Chief of Staff gives us an incredibly strong senior team. Her experience as a skilled communicator and strategist will help us deliver the message to Canadians that New Democrats are ready to bring down the cost of living and deliver hope for the future.”

“I’m very excited to take on this role and keep working with a very talented Leader, Caucus and team,” said Gauvin. “I’m looking forward to the next session of Parliament, where the NDP will continue to present its vision to restore hope and fight Conservative cuts.”

“I’m humbled to take on the job of helping Jagmeet Singh and Canada’s NDP speak to Canadians and restore hope,” said Morrison.

Both appointments are effective Sept. 16, 2024.
