BC NDP MLA Bailey says Vancouver will benefit from a clean energy system for the new Senakw Development
VANCOUVER – BC NDP MLA Brenda Bailey says that people in Vancouver-False Creek will benefit from funding that will help mitigate climate change and strengthen the community’s resilience.
“Our city is growing and changing, and with new developments like Senakw, we also need clean energy infrastructure to support these new homes,” said Brenda Bailey, MLA for Vancouver-False Creek. “While some others might deny the importance of preparing our communities for the future, our government is taking action to build infrastructure that is good for people and the environment.”
The new Senakw Development is benefiting from $1,000,098 in funding from the provincial government, in addition to $1,666,830 from the Government of Canada. The project will construct a district energy system that includes a sewer main connection with screening equipment, heat pumps, a natural gas backup boiler, electric peaking boilers, evaporative cooling towers, and 11 building energy transfer stations.
Across the province, communities will benefit from more energy-efficient buildings, improved clean energy production, and better access to clean energy transportation as part of a joint investment of more than $114 million from the federal and provincial governments and local partners.
Since 2017, the BC NDP government has taken action to address the climate crisis and create innovative opportunities for local communities. Unlike others who continue to deny the impact that climate change is having on communities, by investing in clean energy projects, our government is working to build a more climate-friendly and affordable future for British Columbians.
