WILLIAMS LAKE – Thompson Rivers University (TRU) students now have access to additional health services at the Williams Lake campus through a partnership with the Foundry Cariboo Chilcotin. As of July 16, the Foundry has been offering their services for youth ages 12 to 24 at a new location on TRU’s campus two days per week, serving TRU students as well as new and existing Foundry clients.

The Foundry office is located at the TRU Williams Lake campus in room 1318. Students and clients at TRU and from the surrounding area — which includes Columneetza Secondary School and Lake City Secondary School — can access mental health and substance use support, physical and sexual health care, peer support (coming this fall) and social services.

“This partnership extends health services to our student population while also providing Foundry clients a secondary location to access services,” says Kylie Thomas, TRU academic director for Williams Lake campus and the regions.

“We’re excited to have health professionals on campus, as well as peer mentorship services and support offered through the Foundry, giving our learners opportunities to access holistic health services. Thompson Rivers University is grateful to the Foundry for their services and commitment to our community.”

Services offered by the Foundry’s nurse are available to any youth age 12 to 24 and include:

  • gender care and information
  • sexual health, STI testing, birth control information, pregnancy tests and information
  • basic wound care and injury assessment
  • information on medication or general health questions

TRU’s partnership with the Foundry is for a two-year term, with no exchange of funding. Peer mentoring and counselling services are expected to start in the fall.
