Intersex Awareness Day

July 23, 2024 at 8:10 am  Education, Kamloops, News

“Intersex” is an umbrella term for people who are born with one or more traits in their chromosomes, genitals, hormones or internal reproductive organs that don’t fit the typical male or female patterns.

Some traits might not match the sex they were assigned at birth or may combine traditionally understood male and female traits.

The first Intersex Awareness Day public demonstration by intersex people took place on October 26, 1996, in Boston, Massachusetts, outside a conference of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
