Surrey– BC NDP MLAs Harry Bains, Garry Begg, Jagrup Brar, Bruce Ralston, Rachna Singh, Jinny Sims and Mike Starchuk say grants for local not-for-profit organizations will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in Surrey.

“Sport plays a vital role in fostering strong and resilient kids and communities,” says Jinny Sims, MLA for Surrey-Panorama. “With this funding sports organizations in Surrey will be able to continue to serve the people in our community.”

Over $2.1 million in funding for 44 organizations in Surrey is part of the $25 million in Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.

Some of the organizations receiving funding in Surrey include:

  • $146,000 for the Surrey United Soccer Club

  • $177,000 for the BC Amateur Baseball Association

  • $100,000 for the Cloverdale Minor Hockey Association

  • $59,000 for the Guilford Athletic Club

“For many individuals, participation in sports is a key aspect of living a healthy life,” says Mike Starchuk, MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale. “This funding will help sports organizations in Surrey continue to foster healthy living for years to come.”

The Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
