MAPLE RIDGE– BC NDP MLAs Bob D’Eith and Lisa Beare say grants for local not-for-profit organizations will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

“Investing in community sports organizations fosters healthier, happier communities,” said Bob D’Eith, MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission. “Whether you’re an athlete or a spectator, everyone in B.C. benefits when we help boost local sports.”

Nearly $400,000 in funding for 12 organizations in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows is part of the $25 million in Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.

Some of the organizations receiving funding in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows include:

  • Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association- $100,000
  • Ridge Meadows Minor Lacross Association- $60,000
  • Ridge Meadows Minor Softball Association- $48,500
  • Ridge Meadows Swim Club- $19,000

“Youth in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows can get so much out of local sports,” said Lisa Beare, MLA for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. “Funding for local organizations like minor hockey and minor softball means more kids in Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and across the province can see the benefits of athletics.”

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
