LANGLEY – BC NDP MLAs Andrew Mercier and Megan Dykeman say grants for local not-for-profit organizations will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in Langley.

“The impact of funding community sports goes beyond the field, arena, or track—it builds character, discipline, teaches the  values of working as a team, and brings people together,” said Andrew Mercier, MLA for Langley. “Support for sports is strong in Langley, and it’s great that we can support so many great local organizations with this funding.”

Nearly $400,000 in funding for 14 organizations in Langley is part of the $25 million in Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.

Some of the organizations receiving funding in Langley include:

·       Premier Baseball Association- $90,000

·       Langley United Soccer Association- $100,000

·       North Langley Diamond Sports- $50,000

·       Langley Fastball Association- $30,000

”Supporting local sports and recreation programs fosters camaraderie, resilience, and builds community,” said Megan Dykeman, MLA for Langley-East. “I always look forward to seeing familiar faces at sporting events in Langley, whether cheering on local teams or watching one of the numerous national competitions hosted in the Township of Langley.”

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities.
