LADYSMITH – BC NDP MLA Doug Routley says grants for local not-for-profits will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in Ladysmith and Chemainus.

“Not-for-profits like the Cowichan Valley Minor Hockey Association and the Ladysmith Baseball Association are amazing resources for our community,” says Doug Routley, MLA for Nanaimo – North Cowichan. “These organizations provide awesome programs that encourage health, teamwork, and community spirit, and Community Gaming Grants help make sure they can keep bringing our communities together through sport.”

Almost $20,000 in funding for four organizations in Ladysmith and Chemainus was distributed as part of the $25 million in Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.

The organizations receiving funding are:

  • Fuller Lake skating Club – $7,500
  • Cowichan Valley Minor Hockey Association – $50,000
  • Ladysmith-Chemainus Swim Club Society – $8,400
  • Ladysmith Baseball Association – $12,600

The Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
