BC NDP MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard says grants will support local sports in the Comox Valley
COURTENAY – BC NDP MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard says grants for local not-for-profits will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in the Comox Valley.
“Organizations like the Comox Valley Minor Hockey Association and the Strathcona Nordic Ski Club play such an important role in keeping our community members engaged, active, and social,” says Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “It’s wonderful to see all these great not-for-profits receive Community Gaming Grant funding, and get to continue their work in keeping the Comox Valley fun for all ages.”
Over $288,000 in funding for 13 organizations in the Comox Valley was distributed as part of the $2 million in Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across BC that will improve the quality of life in their communities.
Some of the organizations receiving funding include:
- Comox Bay Sailing Association – $20,000
- Comox Valley Blue Devils Summer Swim Club – $7,300
- Comox Valley Baseball Association $20,000
- Comox Valley Volleyball Club – $11,000
- Comox Valley Breakers Women’s Hockey – $3,500
The Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
