NDP reiterates call on Liberals to fund replacement subway trains for the TTC’s Line 2 « Canada’s NDP

NDP critic for Jobs and Just Transition and MP for Timmins—James Bay Charlie Angus issued the following statement regarding needed federal funding for replacement subway trains for the TTC’s Line 2:

“Affordable, quality, reliable transit and good paying union jobs can go together, benefit people, workers, and communities across the country. But Justin Trudeau and his Liberals don’t seem to get the message despite months of pressure from workers, the municipality, the province and the multiple calls from the NDP to fund replacement subway trains for the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Line 2.

The Liberals must provide funding to Toronto to buy the street cars for Line 2 so they can be built by Alstom in Thunder Bay. The fact that this wasn’t included in the last federal budget shows how out-of-touch the Liberals are and how ineffective the Toronto Liberal MPs are.

And make no mistake: Torontonians and workers in northern Ontario can’t count on Pierre Poilievre to fight for this, he would cut funding for transit altogether. He doesn’t care about creating well paid union jobs and doesn’t believe in improving transit for communities.

New Democrats are going to keep fighting for funding for Line 2 street cars built by Alstom so Torontonians can have better transit when and where they need it, and workers of Thunder Bay can get good paying union jobs.”
