NDP MLA Ravi Kahlon says funding for new playground will mean more fun for kids in Delta
DELTA – New Democrat MLA Ravi Kahlon says a new accessible playground is on the way for students at Heath Traditional Elementary.
“Our kids’ most important job should be learning and having fun” said Ravi Kahlon, MLA for Delta North. “And with this funding for a fifth accessible playground in Delta, kids at Health Traditional Elementary School will be able to continue to do so.”
This year, the New Democrat government is providing funding for 26 new playgrounds in 26 school districts around B.C. Each district is receiving $195,000. The playgrounds will all be designed to be accessible for children of all abilities.
Since 2018, the government has built new playgrounds at 282 schools, benefiting over 70,000 students. Every school district has received at least one playground since 2018, and some schools received funding for multiple playgrounds for their communities to enjoy.
The Delta School District has previously received funding from the New Democrat government for four accessible playgrounds that are now complete at the following schools:
- Chalmers Elementary
- Jarvis Traditional Elementary
- McCloskey Elementary
- Richardson Elementary
Building new accessible playgrounds is part of the government’s priority to ensure students have positive learning and play spaces, no matter where they live.
