TRU invites all to city’s first education “unconference” group discussion – TRU Newsroom

KAMLOOPS – Thompson Rivers University (TRU) invites the public, particularly educators and anyone else with a strong interest in education, to come out and drive the conversation on learning in the context of ever-evolving technological innovations.

Kamloops’s first EdCamp on Saturday, June 8, is a free education conference with no presenters, no vendors and no pre-set agenda — participants build the day’s sessions based on their own interests.

Hosted by the TRU School of Education, EdCamp welcomes educators, parents, policy makers, industry partners and other community members. The broad theme for the day is ways to foster learning within a landscape regularly disrupted by technological leaps and bounds. However, the EdCamp ethos encourages participants to collaboratively determine session topics through their interests and to facilitate sessions by sharing experiences. Instead of a speaker on a stage, discussion circles support conversation.

Over morning coffee, the session board is determined by attendees. As sessions progress in this “unconference” format, participants can choose with their feet, finding the sessions that fit their needs and interests.

EdCamp invites involvement from all sectors of education and draws from a variety of educational settings and community contexts. Anyone in the community interested in education and technology is welcome.

Location: Third floor foyer, Arts and Education Building, TRU Kamloops Campus

EdCamp is free (coffee and lunch are provided), but seats are limited so registration is required.
