Member of the Month – Kamloops Arts Council
Full Name: Lynda Boutilier
Medium: Oil, pastel, watercolour, pencil, pen
How long have you been doing your art: 70 years
What got you originally interested in the art you do: My parents were artistic and encouraged my sisters and me. Also, my uncle was very talented and mentored me for about 6 years.
What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: I’ve learned to take time to see, respect and appreciate the beauty of creation in nature and people.
What do you enjoy the most about your art: Doing it.
What is your favourite joke/quote: My mother always said, “Whatever age I am, is the best age to be”.
If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, and why: I would choose oil painting because of its rich jewel tones and texture. Also, oil is a very forgiving medium to start out with.
What do you think makes art important: I find art connects people, enriches the soul and makes us “stop and smell the roses”. I find that more and more important as our world grows increasingly wrapped in technology and the pace of life ramps up.
Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I am a member of KAC because it promotes local art and I want to support our artists.
What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on): I don’t have a particular project, but want to continue to grow as an artist. I am really looking forward to getting out to paint plein air this Summer.
