Canada’s NDP Leader, Jagmeet Singh, made the following statement:

“Yom HaShoah begins at sundown, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day. We join Jewish Canadians in remembering this genocide that forever left a stain on our collective humanity. On this day, we remember the horrific persecution, torture and murder of 6 million Jewish children, women and men by the Nazi regime.

We join in honouring the memory of Holocaust victims and offer support to their descendants. It’s our collective responsibility to ensure that future generations remember this dark part of our history and honour the vow of Never Again.

This Yom HaShoah, on the minds of many Jewish Canadians are the horrendous attacks by Hamas on October 7th and the rise of antisemitism in our communities across Canada. New Democrats condemn these acts loudly and unequivocally. And we renew our commitment to fight against antisemitism whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head. We stand with Jewish Canadians in the fight against hate.

New Democrats stand with Jewish communities as they begin their ceremonies honouring the lives lost, the survivors and all those impacted. Never forget and never again.”
