CUMBERLAND – New Democrat MLA Josie Osborne says new support for manufacturing businesses in central Vancouver Island will create jobs, promote the development of made-in-B.C. products and strengthen local communities and their economies.

“Our region is home to many innovative, made-in-BC products, and thriving local economies are key to prosperity for people and families here,” said Josie Osborne, MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim. “These projects we’re funding will help create more good jobs and strengthen our economy.”

Through the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund, the BC New Democrat government is contributing over 1.6 million toward three projects in the region that will see local businesses grow and create new jobs, including:

  • Cumberland – Canadian Cultured Dairy Inc. a licensed dairy processor that produces yogurt products for retailers. They are receiving $736,000 for a project consisting of transitioning to a new dairy manufacturing facility and purchasing automated equipment to increase production capacity to support their growth plan.
  • Parksville – Aquila Cedar Products is a wood products manufacturer servicing the construction industry with products such as siding, fence panels and decking. They are receiving $879,000 for a project supporting the purchase and commissioning of new equipment and retrofitting of the manufacturing area to optimize production and increase revenues.
  • Parksville – Cota Aviation is an Indigenous-owned company offering aircraft design, maintenance, and manufacturing. They are receiving $30,000 for planning activities will create a project plan and shop floor assessment before investing in AI-based aircraft manufacturing equipment which will streamline operations and help make them more competitive to domestic and international markets.

The BC New Democrat government is taking action through the StrongerBC Economic Plan to build a strong and sustainable economy through clean and inclusive growth. Supporting local manufacturing sectors helps build a more innovative economy for people, businesses and communities throughout B.C.
