ERRINGTON – New Democrat MLAs Ronna-Rae Leonard and Josie Osborne says local nonprofit organizations are receiving funding to support their work as they continue serving the community.

“Communities like Errington and Hornby Island have small but mighty organizations working hard to make life better for people,” said Josie Osborne, MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim. “With this funding, two important projects to upgrade community facilities can take place to support local events and programs.”

In the Mid Island-Pacific Rim and Courtenay-Comox constituencies, the following nonprofits received funding for capital projects:

  • Errington War Memorial Hall Association, $250,000 for seismic renovations
  • Hornby Island Athletic Association, $63,000 for clubhouse upgrades
  • Multicultural and Immigrant Services Association of Northern Vancouver Island, $80,000 for office space renovations to expand services

“Organizations like the Multicultural and Immigrant Services Organization do great work for people in our community and across the region,” said Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “I’m pleased we’re supporting these organizations so they can continue helping people and take on new and exciting projects.”

This year, $5.2 million in Community Gaming Grants will be shared among 62 organizations for capital projects that will improve quality of life in B.C. communities.

The funding is part of $140 million provided annually through Community Gaming Grants to not-for-profit organizations throughout B.C. These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
