Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“Today, Tamils in Canada and worldwide will gather to celebrate Puthandu and usher in the beginning of a new year.
Puthandu, a significant event in the Tamil community, is a time for joyous celebrations with loved ones. It’s marked by feasts, gift exchanges, and prayers for a peaceful, happy, and prosperous new year.
This occasion also serves as a moment of reflection on the past year, a time to embrace new beginnings and an opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of Canada’s Tamil communities. Their achievements and resilience are integral to Canada’s diversity.
On behalf of the New Democrats, I’d like to wish all Tamils in Canada and around the world a very happy new year.”
