Greens strongly condemn the current escalation in the Middle East

Greens strongly condemn the current escalation in the Middle East. Iran’s attacks against Israel last night were reckless and disproportionate. Israel’s attack against the Iranian embassy in Syria on April 1st was also in violation of international law.

We call on the Government of Canada to swiftly engage and work with international partners to deescalate the situation and prevent further reckless actions and loss of life. In the midst of all this, civilians in the region and their relatives in Canada are the first ones to suffer.

Current events are the result of decades of policy failures and the unwillingness of all too many states to hold themselves and their allies to account for violations of international law. They now risk engulfing us all in an additional conflict the world simply cannot afford. Canada must stand for peace and justice. The only road forward is through immediate negotiations.
