NDP MLA Kelly Greene says more active transportation options are rolling out for Richmond

RICHMOND – New Democrat MLA Kelly Greene says people in Richmond will have more options for active transportation with provincial funding for a local project.

“The new multi-use path adjacent to No. 2 Road, connecting Steveston Highway to Williams Road, is a great example of our commitment to building a healthier, more active community,” says Kelly Greene, MLA for Richmond-Steveston. “This pathway will serve as a vital link for cyclists and pedestrians, enhancing safety and accessibility while promoting a greener neighbourhood.”

The City of Richmond received $450,250 for a No. 2 Road multi-use pathway through the New Democrat government’s Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program. The project will construct a new 630-metre multi-use path adjacent to No. 2 Road, from Steveston Highway to Williams Road.

Across B.C., $24 million in provincial funding will support 80 active transportation infrastructure projects, including 59 projects to build safer transportation networks for people choosing active modes of transit. Additionally, 21 communities are receiving funding to create network plans that can lay the groundwork for future active transportation projects.

The grants will make it easier and safer for people to choose active transportation to get to work, school, shopping, or other destinations in their communities.

The Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program supports the Province’s CleanBC commitment to increase shares of trips by walking, cycling and transit.
