NDP MLA Aman Singh says more active transportation options are rolling out for Queensborough

New Westminster – New Democrat MLA Aman Singh says people in Queensborough will have more options for active transportation with provincial funding for a local project.

“The new multi-use pathway linking Richmond to the Queensborough Bridge is a significant step toward enhancing active transportation in our region,” says Aman Singh, MLA for Richmond-Queensborough. “This corridor, which forms part of TransLink’s Major Bikeway Network, will provide a vital east-west connection for cyclists and pedestrians. By prioritizing sustainable modes of travel, we are not only improving mobility but also contributing to a healthier and more environmentally friendly community.”

The City of New Westminster received $500,000 for Boyd Street active transportation improvements through the New Democrat government’s Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program. The project will construct a new 1.5-kilometre-long multi-use pathway providing an east-west connection from Richmond to the Queensborough bridge.

Across B.C., $24 million in provincial funding will support 80 active transportation infrastructure projects, including 59 projects to build safer transportation networks for people choosing active modes of transit. Additionally, 21 communities are receiving funding to create network plans that can lay the groundwork for future active transportation projects.

The grants will make it easier and safer for people to choose active transportation to get to work, school, shopping, or other destinations in their communities.

The Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants program supports the Province’s CleanBC commitment to increase shares of trips by walking, cycling and transit.
