MLAs D’Eith and Beare say delivering new affordable homes funded by provincial government will help renters
MAPLE RIDGE – New Democrat MLAs Bob D’Eith and Lisa Beare say that funding announced today will help deliver much needed affordable rentals to their community to help seniors with moderate and low incomes find homes that fit their budgets.
“Affordable housing solutions do more than take pressure off of the cost of living for people, they help people, including seniors, be able to stay in the places they love,” said Bob D’Eith, MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission. “Awarding New Vista Society with the funds to operate the Royal Crescent site is a welcome next step in bringing more affordable seniors housing to Maple Ridge!”
In Maple Ridge, New Vista Society has had a successful Community Housing Fund (CHF) application to run 98 homes for seniors at Royal Crescent. In April 2023, BC Housing selected New Vista Society to develop a (CHF) proposal to build seniors housing on the Royal Crescent site. Now that the application has been successful, the land will be leased to New Vista and they will develop, own and operate the seniors housing.
“I know I’m not the only one who is thrilled that nearly 100 new affordable homes for seniors at Royal Crescent are coming to our community, and now, we’re one step closer,” said Lisa Beare, MLA for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. “I’ve been happy to support this project that will make such a difference for seniors in our community.”
The CHF is a $3.3-billion investment to build more than 20,000 affordable rental homes for people with moderate and low incomes by 2031-32.
Projects were prioritized based on several criteria, including prioritized populations and the effect the project would have in addressing the community’s affordable rental housing need.
