COQUITLAM  New Democrat MLAs Fin Donnelly and Rick Glumac say that funding announced today will deliver much needed affordable rentals to the community to help those with moderate and low incomes find homes that fit their budgets.

“Coquitlam’s senior population is growing, and we can’t afford to overlook their needs; and projects like this are essential to ensure they’re not left behind,” says Fin Donnelly, MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain. “S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Affordable Housing Society is leading efforts to bridge housing disparities within our community, making a significant impact in our collective response to the housing crisis.”

In Coquitlam, the following organizations had successful Community Housing Fund applications:

  • Coquitlam, 290 Laval Square and 602 Sydney Ave.: 158 homes for families and seniors, in partnership with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Affordable Housing Society.
  • Coquitlam, 708 Farrow St.: 21 homes for families and seniors, in partnership with VRS Communities Society.

Building BC: Community Housing Fund is a $3.3-billion investment to build more than 20,000 affordable rental homes for people with moderate and low incomes by 2031-32.

“Building affordable housing is a key priority for our government,” says Rick Glumac, MLA for Porty Moody – Coquitlam. “Working with organizations like VRS Community Society and funding these important projects helps to make sure our communities are welcoming to everyone.”

Projects were prioritized based on several criteria, including prioritized populations and the effect the project would have in addressing the community’s affordable rental housing need.
