Build Kamloops FAQ – “Haven’t we voted “No” to a performing arts centre twice already?

March 19, 2024 at 1:34 pm  Kamloops, Municipal, Politics

Build. Grow. Connect. Repeat. #BuildKamloops

In 2015, a referendum on a proposed Performing Arts Centre in Kamloops failed by a slim margin. The city was slated to hold another one in 2020, but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The need for an arts centre has been long-established in strategic plans dating back to the 2003 Cultural Strategic Plan. This need was reconfirmed through community engagement for the 2019 Recreation Master Plan, where it emerged as the highest priority need in the community.

Since 2020, over 17,500 new residents have moved to Kamloops, the need for an arts centre has grown and Council has taken steps to advance the design.
