Backgrounder: Active transportation projects in British Columbia to better connect communities

The federal government is investing more than $4.6 million through the Active Transportation Fund to support 6 active transportation planning and improvement projects across British Columbia.

The project will develop an active transportation plan to better connect residents with public transit, community buildings, and Chawathil and Schkam reserves with the District of Hope through safe, well-lit pathways and trails.

The project will construct the final section of an all-ages and abilities bike route, spanning from Okanagan lake to Skaha lake, complete with bike maintenance stations, public water bottle filling stations, lighting, and rest areas.

The project will construct 1.2 km of enhanced multi-use path on either side of the Lougheed Highway.

Great Blue Heron Way – Highway 17 Crossing Study

The project will plan a safe highway crossing for people walking, cycling, and rolling and a section of path required to connect to the existing Tsawwassen Ferry Causeway path.

The project will realign the path at one of the key intersections on Vancouver’s primary North-South greenway connection to create a safer and clearer crossing.
